Growing Herbs!

  Heavenly Lavender!

I love lavender! Who doesn't?  It's a plant with such a unique history that I dare say few other plants could even come close to.  The Lavender Plant has been found throughout the past 2000+ years in various documented and folklore stories.    It is a flowering plant in the mint family which is known for its beauty, its sweet floral fragrance and multiple uses.  Lavender has been referred to as spiknard in Greece and India, and also in the Bible.  The scent of Lavender is symbolized as cleanliness and purity. It is a very common scent that is added to a lot of different cleaning supplies, soaps, candles, potpourri, and air fresheners.

Turmeric is much more than a spice. It's health benefits are known and used for many ailments.  The primary chemical ingredient in Turmeric is Curcumin. This is what gives the spice the peppery and slightly bitter flavor.

Drying Herbs!

Harvest your Herbs just before they flower by clipping them off about an inch from the dirt.
Herbs can be dried in the following ways:
I.  The leaves can be placed in the oven in a layer on a cookie sheet (on parchment paper). Place the cookie sheet in the oven with the oven door open for approximately 2 to 4 hours with the oven temperature set at 180 degrees. When they feel crumbly, store them in a clean, airtight jar.
2. The leaves can be placed in the microwave on a paper plate or paper towel for 1 to 3 minutes, mixing them every 30 seconds
3.  The herb plant can be air-dried (the traditional way) by tieing the stalks in a tight bunches and hanging the plants upside down in a dark, warm, and clean area. After a week or two, when the
leaves feel dry and crumbly, store the leaves in a clean airtight jar.
  4.  The herb leaves can also be frozen. Before freezing, clean the herb leaves well and then let them completely dry making sure there is no moisture on the plant.  Place the clean herb leaves in a freezer bag and then place the bag in the free

YNNeed Energy?

                                                Try Ginseng!

There is a natural and healthy way to replenish energy levels.  The Panax Ginseng plant has been used for thousands of years by the Asians to get extra energy and it has been used for other health benefits as well.   Ginseng can be found growing in eastern North America, Canada, and eastern Asia, typically in cooler climates.  This herb is commonly found in energy drinks and herbal drinks. Although this is a very good herb with lots of health benefits, it is important to know that too much Ginseng can cause negative health symptoms.
